Postage

Once your purchase is complete, I ask that you contact me with a delivery address and also to discuss a suitable delivery date (sales@turneraquatics.co.uk) or 07983203118. There MUST be someone home to receive your delivery as all items need to be signed for. No refunds can be offered for items that have failed deliveries due to no one being at home.

All fish are first starved for 24 hours to help prevent the build up of toxins in the water during shipping. The first stage of packaging is two separately sealed strong plastic bags, containing enough water and air to ensure your fish arrives in tip top condition. Stresscoat plus is added to the shipping water to calm the fish and protect it during transport. The bags placed inside a suitably sized polystyrene box that has been lined with newspaper and other protective packaging to prevent any movement during their travels. A 40 hour heat pack** is placed in the box before it is sealed (two packs used in winter). The poly box is placed inside a double walled cardboard box and heavily labelled highlighting the fragile nature of the contents. To keep shipping as cost low as possible, smaller live orders are sent next day by 1pm, whilst larger orders are delivered using next day by 10am. Saturday deliveries are possible (surcharges exist), and surghaces also exist for highlands and Islands (please contact for more details BEFORE ordering if you believe they may apply to your post code)

** 40 Hour heat packs are used as they provide a stable temperature for at least 30 hours before starting to cool, thus keeping the fish at a stable and suitable temperature for the duration of the shipping process.

DOA Policy

In the unlikely event that some of your fish arrive DOA (Dead on arrival) I operate a simple and clear policy that ensures you are not left out of pocket. Please send photos of the fish firstly IN THE BAGS, then on the lid of the box to sales@turneraquatics.co.uk . In certain circumstances I may request that you place the fish in a plastic bag and return it in the post 1st class. You will receive a refund of the full value of the fish via the method used to pay originally. Should there be a total loss the postage costs will also be refunded. All DOA claims must be made within 2 hours of the fish being signed for and unfortunately claims cannot be processed for fish that were returned to the depot if you were not home.

Acclimatizing your fish

There are many methods that you can use to acclimatize your fish, this is the method that I use myself and recommend.

1. Open your box carefully, avoiding using sharp objects!

2. Open all the bags and transfer the fish and the water into a large bucket.

3. If you have a chemical like ‘stresscoat’ or ‘prime’ add a small amount to the bucket (opening the bag can cause toxin levels in the water to change, these chemicals nuteralise this)

4. Remove most of the shipping water from the bucket until there is just enough left to cover the fish.

5. Use a length of airline to siphon water from the tank into the bucket, depending on the size of the bucket you may need to repeat steps 5 and 6 a few times (see below).

6. Using a net remove the fish from the bucket and allow the water to drain from the net.

7. Add the fish to their new home WITHOUT PUTTING THE NET IN THE WATER.

Tips:

· Don’t open the box until you are ready to unpack the fish (opening the box early can stress the fish due to light, and also allows the warm climate contained within to escape)

· It is best to complete this process in a warm room.

· Try to avoid putting the bucket directly on a cold floor, I use a stool to keep my bucket from resting on a concrete floor that would affect the temp of the water.

· I recommend repeating steps 5 & 6 until:

o At least 6 times the original shipping water (amount left after the first stage 5) has been added

o The water in the bucket is within 1.5 degrees of the tank water

o The fish are alert and swimming round in the bucket

· DON’T RUSH

· Stage 8 is very important, toxins can build up during shipping and you should aim to minimise the amount of shipping water that reaches your tank.

· Leave the lights off in the tank for the rest of the day to allow the fish to get used to their new surroundings, and begin feeding lightly the following morning.

· Remember to keep an eye on your water quality as new fish increase the bio load on your filters.
