Description:
Breeding groups of Pseudocrenilabrus Nicholsi cichlids for sale (1 male and 3 females) £50 or £15 each.
Males are 5-8cm and females 3-4cm in length. Females have started brooding, so it’s time for them to find new homes. The parents have been kept in a community tank with Angels, Platies, Kribensis and various tetra without any issues.
Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi is an interesting dwarf cichlid from the Congo River in Africa that is only very rarely traded. The males in particular are extremely colourful and active little fish. Mature specimens are 7-8 cm in length and golden yellow in colour with numerous blue and red speckles on their flanks and fins, as well as a distinctive black edge to their dorsal fins. Females are less colourful and generally smaller, 5-6 cm being typical, but otherwise rather similar to the males. Like most dwarf cichlids they inhabit shallow, still or slow-moving bodies of water where they live close to vegetation and other hiding places. An aquarium with lots of plants and moderate filtration will suit them well. In terms of behaviour male Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi are territorial and fairly aggressive towards each other and sometimes hard on the females (keep more than one female per male) but generally ignore dissimilar tankmates occupying the middle and upper levels of the tank, such as medium-sized midwater characins and barbs. Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi is very easy to keep, doing well across a broad range of water chemistry values and accepting all the usual dried and frozen foods.
