Description:
Young Heterandria formosa (also known as Least killifish, Dwarf or Midget livebearer, Mosquito fish and Dwarf Top-Minnow).
Size: minimum 1 cm (0.4 in) or more,

Habitat: Fresh and brackish waters, North Carolina to Florida.
Length: A tiny fish, the smallest livebearer, the male reaches 2 cm (0.8 in) and the female 3.5 cm (1.4 in).
Diet: Despite its common name of Mosquito fish, it eats primarily green matters. Addition of a good quality dry food (ZM-400) and live, newly hatched brine shrimps helps bring females to a breeding condition faster.
Features: The basic colour is olive-green, with a dark brown line running down each side of the body. The fins are yellowish in colour, the dorsal fin being marked with a single spot. The male has a very large gonopodium.
Basic care and breeding: Keep these fish in a species tank (bottom dwelling peaceful fish and shrimps are fine) at a temperature of 20-24°C(68-75°F) in hard, slightly alkaline water. A 30 litres tank for an adult pair or trio is a minimum. Heterandria formosa continually produce a few fry rather than distinct broods, which allows them to bear larger fry with better chance of survival. This remarkable process is called superfoetation. Because of this “production line” system, there is no point of trapping the female. Ideally, use a well-planted tank for breeding and either leave the fry with the mother or remove them to another tank for greater safety when the opportunity arises.
All fish come from my breeding colony of Heterandria formosa imported from US. This is F1 generation free of any genetic issues associated with inbreeding. I am selling a surplus to bring a number of fish to grow down. If you have any questions about their husbandry etc. do not hesitate to ask me.

I personally use it to bring my Zebrafish, Corys, Mosquito fish and Neocaridina shrimps to a breeding condition. Also, it can be used as a fine fry food. It just needs to be crushed slightly between your fingertips.
